DEPENDENCY; that is the word that most closely describes my experience during this 1st week of being Beatriz’ Mommy ;-) And those of you who know me, need no further explanation as to what an ‘adventure’ that is for me ;-)
Jamison for creating this website with Birgit user-friendly instructions so that we may share Beatriz’ updates, photo’s, etc on a timely manner going forward with all our family and friends (see a photo I took of Jamison during the 'birthing process' of this website…he was able to hold Beatriz while working on the computer in our St. Luke's hospital room :-) it's in the 'birth' album )
My Mom for spending the nights with me back at home, helping me change diapers, clothes, and caring for Beatriz so I could take at least 1 hour of sleep a night…
My Dad for being ‘jack of all trades’…he assembled the gliding chair, rolling crib, mounted shelves, cooked dinner, and accompanied Mom while they both ran household errands for me and even got me a nursing top…
Jamison’s parents for asking us to make sure the hospital photographer would come by to take pictures of Beatriz during her 1st few days outside the womb ;-)
The rest of my family and friends for showing such care and understanding while I drastically reduced direct communication while taking care of Beatriz’ well being and my own ;-)
Nadia Stein, the doula that helped me so much during the labor process, who has since come over to help me with breast-feeding, burping, diaper changing, baby positioning, etc tips
Theodora DeFranscesca, the midwife who ensured I had as much time and space as possible without compromising the safety of Beatriz or myself during the over 24.5 labor and delivery process, and for doing such a great job stitching me up and having me really understand how serious she was about limiting my tendency to carry anything over 10lbs so I may heal quickly ;-)
There are many others I’m dependent on and will continue to be, including the staff at Lamar Tower who help me carry Beatriz down and up in her car seat when Jamison comes by to pick us up for her Doctor’s visits ;-)
Most of all, I’m dependent on Beatriz for her grace with me while I figure out how to be a good Mommy to her, and of course for the way she is such a natural at breast-feeding and letting me know when it’s been over 2 hours since her last milk meal (like now :-) .
So, for now I’m signing off again, with the main goal of caring well for Beatriz’ health so that when she goes in on 12/27 for her blood work tests, that we hear the great news from the Doctor that it’s safe and good timing to start enjoying the personal visits of friends ;-)
